- MORE DETAILS
People of the North is an ongoing, exploratory project that branched from the restlessly experimental Brooklyn scene pioneered by Kid Millions and Bobby Matador of Oneida. Since its first tour in 2003, POTn has acted as a separate voice within the larger Oneida orbit, often featuring the core members of the band.
While there are no strict boundaries, POTn tends to be more devoted to minimalism, repetition, and sternness compared to Oneida’s broader, more sprawling efforts. This disciplined approach is exemplified by Deep Tissue, recorded in early 2009. The album draws from a broad, diverse palette—a blend of 70s Germany, 80s Chicago, 90s Japan, and 2000s Iran. While influences like Bo Hansson and Suicide exist, the music itself should be experienced organically. Described as sounding like "the smell of flowers and diesel exhaust," Deep Tissue offers a cold, deep, and compelling sonic landscape. POTn tracks have also contributed compositions to Oneida’s repertoire, including “Up with People” and “Lavender.”
