Sun Airway

BIOGRAPHY

Sun Airway are an indie electronic pop band from Philadelphia, known for their dreamy, atmospheric soundscapes and catchy melodies. The band was formed by Jon Barthmus, who had previously been part of the indie rock band The A-Sides. Sun Airway's music blends lush electronic production with elements of indie rock and pop, creating a sound that is both ethereal and accessible.

Their debut album, Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier (2010), received critical acclaim for its innovative use of samples, reverb-heavy vocals, and sweeping, cinematic arrangements. The music often features shimmering synths, layered textures, and upbeat rhythms, evoking a sense of escapism and nostalgia.

Sun Airway's sound is often compared to artists like Animal Collective, M83, and Cut Copy, with a focus on creating immersive sonic experiences that transport listeners to otherworldly places. The band continued to develop their sound with their follow-up album, Soft Fall (2012), which further explored themes of dreams, memory, and the passage of time through a blend of electronic and organic elements.

The project has been praised for its ability to balance experimental production techniques with pop sensibilities, making Sun Airway a distinctive voice in the indie electronic scene.
