RICHARD YOUNGS

BIOGRAPHY

Richard Youngs is an artist whose musical journey refuses easy categorization. From his early days entrenched in the shadowy fringes of the UK’s industrial underground—collaborating in the duo Omming For Woks and curating the experimental Jabberwocky label—to his wide-ranging output in the decades since, Youngs has continuously reinvented what music can be. The '90s saw him deep in sonic dialogue with Simon Wickham-Smith, charting paths through uncharted aural wilderness. More recently, he’s been exploring song again, crafting works that float between raw, elemental folk and an idiosyncratic brand of lo-fi, homespun rock.

Youngs' discography is extensive, featuring numerous albums that showcase his evolution as an artist. What makes his work particularly compelling is the sense of wonder it carries—for artist and listener alike. There’s no antagonism in the way he sidesteps genre conventions; instead, there’s curiosity, play, and a rare clarity of emotional expression. Even at its most abstract, Youngs’ music speaks directly to something human, something heartfelt.
