Bowerbirds

BIOGRAPHY

Bowerbirds is an American indie folk band formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2006. The band was originally founded by Phil Moore and Beth Tacular, who are known for their harmonious vocals and intricate, nature-inspired lyrics. Their music is characterized by a blend of acoustic instruments, including guitar, accordion, and violin, often layered with lush, earthy arrangements that evoke the natural world.

Bowerbirds’ sound is deeply rooted in folk traditions but also incorporates elements of indie rock and Americana. Their lyrics frequently explore themes of love, the environment, and human connection, often with a poetic and reflective tone. The band’s debut album, Hymns for a Dark Horse (2007), was well-received for its intimate, pastoral sound and set the stage for their subsequent releases.

Albums like Upper Air (2009) and The Clearing (2012) further developed their sound, with The Clearing particularly noted for its more expansive and polished production, while still maintaining the band’s signature warmth and sincerity. Bowerbirds are praised for their ability to create music that feels both timeless and deeply personal, making them a beloved act within the indie folk community.
