The formation of Home began in South Florida when pianist Eric Morrison and guitarist Andrew Deutsch started collaborating, moving from filmmaking to music. In Tampa, they met bassist Brad Truax and drummer Sean Martin, officially dubbing the band after a fictional soap opera. Their initial ascent was entirely DIY, relying on local cassette distribution before Relativity Records discovered them and funded Home IX.

After a decade-long hiatus following Sean Martin's departure, the band reformed, securing a release with Brah Records for their thematic tribute album, Home Sexteen.

This reunion led to the creation of the ambitious, multi-phase concept album Home XVII. The project began by envisioning an "Alternate Reality" (AR) where each member's life is drastically destroyed and their identities are threatened (such as apartment buildings being erased or discovering a loved one is an android). After charting the skeletal tracks of the AR narrative, the band pivoted, undertaking a meticulous summer of overdubbing to digitize and master their initial eight damaged, decades-old recordings. Finally, the members recombined the new, emotionally charged material from the AR with their rediscovered early sound to form the sprawling narrative of Home XVII.
